Health briefs: Clinic offers tips before you travel

• Edward Hospital has opened a Travel Medicine Clinic to help people with their health care needs and preparations for international trips.

It's recommended to contact the clinic, 801 S. Washington St., Naperville, at least six weeks before departure to allow time for necessary immunizations and assessment of any adverse reactions.

The clinic offers consultations along with vaccines for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, influenza, Japanese encephalitis, meningococcal, pneumococcal, polio, Tdap, typhoid vaccine and yellow fever.

• Dr. David Ansell will discuss how the “Patient Protection and Affordability Healthcare Act Attempts to Equalize Health Disparities” during a health care symposium at the Loyola Medical Center-Stritch School of Medicine on Saturday, Sept. 8.

The symposium will run from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Tobin Hall, 2160 S. 1st Ave., Maywood. Admission is $75, $50 for alumni and faculty, $25 for non-Loyola students, and $10 for Loyola students with valid ID. Call (312) 915-7005 or visit Luc.edu/socialwork.

• The new Streamwood Dialysis Center provides area patients with access to dialysis treatment.
