Glen Ellyn Historical Society seeks volunteers

The Glen Ellyn Historical Society is seeking volunteers to serve as store clerks in the Stacy’s Corners Store, work as docents and assist with hands-on education programs at Stacy’s Tavern Museum, and complete long- and short-term projects in the Glen Ellyn History Center’s archives.

High school students, college students and adults who have time to share may call (630) 469-1867 and leave their name and phone number. The volunteer coordinator will contact them and arrange for a training session.

Stacy’s Tavern volunteers assist with tours in the historic stagecoach inn that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is fully restored to the 1840s and is the only stagecoach inn in Illinois.

Volunteers attend a series of training sessions to learn about the history of the site and how to lead groups through the historic building and grounds. Trained docents also participate in special events such as the annual Tavern Day history celebration Sept. 30 and present education programs in the local schools.

Archive volunteers are trained to process and preserve historical materials. The Glen Ellyn History Center’s primary emphasis is on local Glen Ellyn history, and secondary emphasis is given to DuPage County history.

The History Center provides assistance with individual research, access to archival collections, photo processing, scanning and computer research assistance.

Stacey’s Corners store clerks welcome customers and assist at the checkout counter. Prospective volunteers arrange hours with the volunteer coordinator.
