New downtown leader in Highland Park

Folk musician Lee Murdock will explore the history of the War of 1812 through story and song at the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 25. Murdock is expected to revisit the history of what some consider to be a forgotten war with tunes from the period, as well as contemporary ballads that tell of battles, characters, poetry and heroic deeds performed on both sides of the conflict. It’ll be a free musical lecture that not only celebrates a turning point in the history of Illinois and North America, but also the alliance between the United States and Canada that has been nurtured for almost 200 years. Oberg at (847) 543-1745 or doberg@villageofgrayslake.com.
