Watch for untruths in your email inbox

This is in response to Lawrence Boni’s letter from May 27 and to all who believe everything they read in forwarded emails. I urge everyone to check the facts before forming opinions or writing incorrect letters to the paper. Anyone can use the Internet to send out lies, inaccuracies and opinions. Many things these days are purposefully and ruthlessly written and forwarded by thousands. It’s pretty easy to do. But there are sites to help us check facts. Two sites are www.factcheck.org or www.snopes.com.

Mr. Boni wrote that President Obama doesn’t care about the military or veterans. How can someone believe that a U.S. president wouldn’t care about people and families in the military? How very sad that he has let himself believe this. Mr. Boni’s writings about military health insurance issues are not true. I have fact checked his allegations. Also, none of the remarks attributed to President Obama that were listed in Mr. Boni’s letter are true. The insulting and un-American statements were written in a satirical piece by a conservative humorist named John Semmens in March 2009. Check out the facts.

The number of lies being circulated about President Obama is very upsetting and mind blowing. To me, this is a very sad time for our country. Everyone, please check for facts. Most circulated emails are untrue and are intended to negatively sway public opinion.
