Editorial saw the senselessness in fray

I want to compliment the Daily Herald for the first (and only) intelligent comments on the Walsh/Duckworth imbroglio. Rep. Joe Walsh obviously admires and respects our military personnel and recognizes the great heroism of his opponent. It is equally obvious what he was trying to say. Candidate Tammy Duckworth needs policy prescriptions and not just a heroic personal resume. His words were ill-chosen. If he asked me, I would suggest Joe invoke former New York Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia and say, “When I make a mistake it’s a beaut.”

Likewise, MSNBC and Duckworth’s liberal chorus are making a mountain out of a molehill. In their own way, the liberals are cheapening Duckworth’s great personal sacrifice for our nation. But this country is in a mess (whether you are a liberal or conservative) and we need to know where she stands, not just allow Duckworth to parrot Rahm Emanuel’s talking points.

So, kudos to the Daily Herald for making sense of a senseless controversy. Your editorial hit the nail on the head (or is that too direct an analogy for these paranoid times?). And Joe, just say it was a poor choice of words and move on.
