100 degrees a possibility today

Temperatures are expected to climb to 100 degrees today and could threaten the all-time high for the recorded history of Independence Day, which was 102 set back in 1919. A heat advisory will be in effect until 9 p.m., but Thursday is expected to be the hotter of the next two days. The heat index could peak at 110 degrees today in the humid air. Full story.

Some suburbs cancel fireworks shows as storm damage remains

A number of suburbs have canceled fireworks and Fourth of July parades for a variety of weather-related reasons. Some suburbs are still struggling with debris cleanup from Sunday's storm, while others are being cautious because of drought-like conditions. The latest list.

Joe Walsh criticizes Tammy Duckworth's portrayal of her military service

Democrat Tammy Duckworth Tuesday accused Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh of attacking her military service and a video of some of his comments is drawing national attention, providing another blow in the heated contest for Congress from the 8th District. During a town-hall meeting Sunday, Walsh told the crowd he is "running against a woman who I mean, my God, that's all she talks about. Our true heroes, the men and women who served us, it's the last thing in the world they talk about." Full story.
