Teen killed in Antigo crash had high blood alcohol

ANTIGO, Wis.— The teenaged driver in a May crash that killed two teens in Antigo had blood alcohol content close to three times the legal limit.

WAOW in Wausau reports Monday that the Department of Transportation says 18-year-old Jeffrey Smith had a blood alcohol content of .218 at the time of the May 28 crash. The legal limit for driving is .08.

Smith and an 18-year-old passenger, Jacob Arrowood, were thrown from the car and killed. Two other teens in the car were critically hurt while a fifth teenager sustained minor injuries.

Authorities said Smith failed to stop at an intersection and collided with a van. Two people in the van were not seriously injured.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating where the teens got the alcohol.
