Cougars pitchers combine on 3-hit shutout

Angel Baez and two relievers combined on a 3-hitter and 13 strikeouts as the Kane County Cougars cruised to a 6-0 victory over the host Peoria Chiefs on Monday night.

Baez (3-2) matched a season high with 8 strikeouts in 6 innings, stifling the Chiefs (38-42, 3-8) on just 2 hits.

Cody Fassold kept the shutout intact by striking out out four in the seventh and eighth innings, and Robinson Yambati tossed a perfect ninth.

The Cougars (41-40, 7-4) took the lead in the second after three singles, an error and a passed ball allowed 2 runs to score.

The Cougars resume the series tonight at Peoria’s O’Brien Field at 6:30 p.m.
