Carpentersville man guilty of sexually abusing minor

A 43-year-old Carpentersville man has been found guilty of having sexual contact with a minor, prosecutors said Monday.

Jonny Haskins of the 0-99 block of Oxford Drive was convicted on two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse Wednesday and remains at the Kane County jail. He had been held there since his arrest in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Prosecutors said Haskins knew the girl he had sexual contact with.

The girl reported the contact to a school counselor, who alerted authorities.

The sexual abuse occurred between January 2009 and November 2009, according to prosecutors.

“The victim in this case showed great courage in testifying, and her testimony was a key factor in convicting this defendant,” said Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon.

Haskin’s sentencing hearing is set for August 10. He faces probation or between three and seven years in prison.
