With the first day of the NHL free-agency signing period under way, the Blackhawks agreed to terms with Anaheim defenseman Sheldon Brookbank on a two-year contract.
Brookbank, 31, recorded career highs in goals (3), assists (11) and points (14) and led the Anaheim Ducks with a +11 plus/minus rating while appearing in 80 regular-season games in 2011-12.
The Lanigan, Saskatchewan, native has appeared in 277 career regular-season NHLgames, collecting 36 points (4G, 32A) and 400 penalty minutes spanning seven seasons with the Nashville Predators (2006-07), New Jersey Devils (2007-09) and Ducks (2009-12).
Brookbank helped the Ducks reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2009 and 2011.
