Deadline nearing for Illinois State Fair parade

SPRINGFIELD-- The deadline is coming up for those who want to participate in the parade that unofficially kicks off the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

Those interested in being in this year's Twilight Parade and marching band competition need to enter applications by July 6. A committee will screen the applications and select entrants.

This year's theme is "Family Fun for Everyone." Entrants will compete for creative and cash prizes. The most prestigious award is the Governor's Sweepstake Award, which includes $300.

The parade is Aug. 9 at 6 p.m.
