Lebowski Fest descends on Milwaukee this weekend

MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee bars better stock up on white Russian drink ingredients.

Lebowski Fest is hitting Milwaukee, starting Friday with a free outdoor screening of “The Big Lebowski” — the film that started it all.

The traveling festival celebrates the 1998 cult movie by Joel and Ethan Coen. Fans dress up as their favorite character, such as L.A. slacker Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski, sip his favorite drink white Russians and go bowling, The Dude’s favorite pastime.

One of the local organizers, Matt Beringer, tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that 5,000 people are expected to attend the screening Friday.

Other events associated with the fest include a bowling party and costume contest at a bowling alley Saturday and some restaurants featuring a Lebowski-themed “hangover brunch” menus on Sunday.
