World photos to help fund Riverwalk Gateway project in Naperville

Proceeds from the sale of artwork on exhibit at North Central College will directly benefit the college’s Riverwalk Gateway project.

Visitors may purchase any of more than 40 different pieces from the exhibit “Images from a Well-Traveled Lens,” on display through Sunday, June 24, in Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.

The exhibit showcases the photography of Hunt Harris, a Moline native who has visually documented his travels around the world.

Prices range from $195 for small pieces to $395 for larger works. Prices include glass framing by Colbert Custom Framing and Art Printing of Naperville, which has partnered with Harris and the college on the exhibit.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale will help finance construction of the Riverwalk Gateway. North Central is partnering with the city of Naperville, Naperville Park District, Naperville Riverwalk Commission and Naperville Riverwalk Foundation to build the Riverwalk Gateway this summer in the area between Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium and Fredenhagen Park.

The Riverwalk Gateway and Sesquicentennial Walkway comprise the college’s Sesquicentennial Legacy Project, which will improve pedestrian access and beautify the campus for the enjoyment of the community.

Harris and his wife have been to every continent at least twice, and many photographs in the exhibit were taken during these travels abroad. He frames his subject matter from a scenic perspective and edits the work in Photoshop to further enhance the images.

Harris makes all his own prints using specialty archival papers. He uses pigment inks that have a projected life of more than 100 years and uses a clear coating to further preserve the quality.

A recently retired entrepreneur, Harris looks forward to pursuing his avocation with photography even further, while adding to his skills with photography workshops and mentorships.
