Crash downs power line, closes roads in Barrington Hills

Barrington Hills police expect Brinker Road to remain closed from Otis Road to Route 62 until about 3 p.m. while ComEd works to replace a power pole broken this morning when struck by a vehicle.

Deputy Police Chief Rich Semelsberger said the pole was broken about 7 a.m. when a vehicle northbound on Brinker swerved to avoid another car that was driving too close to the centerline. The northbound vehicle then hit the power pole and rolled over. Both the driver, a 17-year-old female, and passenger, her 16-year-old brother, were treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.

Semelsberger said it “appeared that speed was a factor” in the crash because of the extensive damage to the pole.

In the meantime, he said residents in the areas of Otis (East of Brinker), Brinker, Old Dundee, Hills and Dales and Honeycutt roads can expect intermittent power outages.

“It’s a lengthy process ... because there’s a number of lines on that pole,” Semelsberger said.
