A 66-year-old St. Charles man, who has a record of sexual abuse, is accused of raping a relative’s girlfriend last weekend.
Gary Kluber, of the 100 block of South 10th Avenue, is charged with two counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual abuse of a 35-year-old Aurora woman June 2, police announced Friday.
The woman was visiting her longtime boyfriend over the weekend and Kluber was temporarily staying at the home, police said.
“Kluber was alone with the victim in the basement, when the defendant began making unwelcome sexual advances with the victim, who told him to stop numerous times. It is also alleged that the defendant disregarded her requests to stop and forced himself on her against her wishes,” police said in a news release.
The woman reported the attack Sunday and police investigated and arrested Kluber Thursday.
Bail was set Friday $250,000 and Kluber must pay $25,000 to be released before his next court date, which is scheduled Wednesday before Judge Timothy Sheldon.
The charges carry up to 15 years in prison if convicted, but probation also is an option.
Kluber was given four years of probation after a 1987 sex attack in Aurora, court records show.
He was charged in June 1988 with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a felony that carried a penalty of anywhere from probation to seven years in prison.
He pleaded guilty in October 1988 and was sentenced to 216 days of periodic imprisonment, four years probation, the first year of which was intensive probation for molesting a girl younger than 13 in December 1987, when he was 42, records show.
His probation was completed in September 1993, records show.
In early 2010, he was picked up by Aurora police and charged with felony unlawful presence of a child sex offender in a school zone, in this case, East Aurora High School. He served 30 days in the Kane County jail, was given a year of conditional discharge and assessed $760 in fines and court costs.
He also has at least 10 arrests or citations for driving with a suspended license and no insurance.Copyright © 2013 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
