College of Lake County: Noon, outside at the CLC Willow Lake Veterans Memorial on the campus at 19351 W. Washington St., Great Lakes Naval Station staff will present a drill team, color guard, bugle, chaplain, keynote speaker and patriotic readings. Sheila Baker Bondurant will sing the national anthem.

Saturday, May 26

Arlington Heights: 3 p.m. concert at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre stars Chicago jazz singer Tammy McCann with an 18-piece big band performing classic World War II era songs. Bartlett: At a 10 a.m. ceremony, the Bartlett Veterans Memorial Foundation dedicates Phase I of the upcoming Veterans Memorial at Stearns and South Bartlett roads.

Rolling Meadows: Memorial Day parade starts at 11 a.m. from Meadow and Kirchoff roads; ends with an 11:30 a.m. ceremony at the Carillon. Stay for the Healthy Family Walk and a raffle for one family to win front row seats to the 4th of July fireworks.

Streamwood: 8 p.m. candlelight vigil begins at the Streamwood Veterans Memorial, 301 E. Irving Park Road. Throughout the night, Vigil Guards will march past the monoliths and will be relieved at 11 a.m. Sunday for the Memorial Day ceremony.

Sunday, May 27

Arlington Heights: The annual Salute Inc. Got Freedom? Walk and Run begins at 8 a.m. at Miner School, 1101 E. Miner St. USATF certified course. Run the 5K or 10K course; walk the 5K course through the residential streets of Arlington Heights; or run the 5K+ Tactical Challenge. saluteinc.org.

Aurora: A patriotic service will be held at 10 a.m. at Bednarcik Junior High School, 3025 Heggs Road, Aurora. (630) 355-9590.

DuPage County: 2 p.m. observance at the Veterans Memorial, near the pond at the Government Complex, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton. Guest speaker is Tom Day, founder of Bugles Across America, which recruits volunteers to play “Taps” at veterans ceremonies and funerals. Streamwood: 11 a.m. ceremony at the Veteran's Memorial, 301 E. Irving Park Road, Streamwood, marking the end of the honor guard vigil that began at 8 p.m. the night before. West Dundee: The Dundee Township Memorial Day Parade is set for 2 p.m. The parade, organized by the Tri-Cities Evergreen VFW Post 2298, steps off at Van Buren Street in East Dundee and marches west on Main Street to the park's gazebo where a program will honor veterans. (847) 428-9006.

Antioch: Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. at Antioch VFW Post 4557, 75 North Ave. Features a color guard and speeches and will be followed by light lunch. (847) 395-5393.

Aurora: Parade steps off at noon from River and Benton streets, east to Broadway, north to Galena and west to Hoyt Place. The best viewing area is North Island Center, 8 E. Arlington Heights: Memorial Day parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. from Village Hall, Arlington Heights Road and Sigwalt. Features the Vietnam Veterans of America and an open invitation to all Vietnam veterans to “fall in” and march with the unit. West on Sigwalt to Dunton, north to Euclid, west to Chestnut, south to Memorial Park. Park ceremony will include a tribute to Arlington Heights' fallen heroes, a 200-voice Memorial Day Choir, and the annual group photo of all veterans in attendance.

Barrington: Annual Memorial Day parade steps off at 10 a.m. from Cook and Main streets. Ends at Evergreen Cemetery for a short service dedicated to the memory of men and women who died while in uniform.

Bartlett: At 10 a.m., American Legion flag retirement ceremony at Bartlett Park, Oak and North avenues. At 11 a.m., veterans, Scouts, civic groups, bagpipers and residents begin the annual Memorial Day Walk from Bartlett Park to Bartlett Cemetery, for a brief program honoring Bartlett's heroes. Buffalo Grove: 11 a.m. ceremony at historic Knopf Cemetery on Arlington Heights Road, north of Checker Drive. Hosted by Kingswood United Methodist Church, ceremony will involve veterans organizations, local Scout Troops, community leaders, the Rev. Luke Pepper, pastor of Kingswood Church, a flag ceremony rifle volley and playing of “Taps.” (847) 398-0770.

Des Plaines: VFW Post 2992 and American Legion Post 36 will have three ceremonies Monday. 8:15 a.m. at All Saints Cemetery, brief ceremony and wreath-laying at the main flagpole; 9 a.m. at Ridgewood Cemetery for a ceremony and wreath-laying at Veterans Memorial; 11 a.m. at Lake Park Memorial Pavilion, Lake Park on Lee Street, between Howard and Touhy. Elk Grove Village: Ceremony at 10:45 a.m. at the Park District Pavilion, 1000 Wellington Ave. Fire and police honor guard, gun salute and “Taps.” Wreaths will be placed at Elk Grove Memorial Park.

Glendale Heights: VFW Post 2377 conducts a Fallen Warrior Ceremony, followed by a wreath-laying at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 220 Civic Center Plaza. (630) 260-6000.

Grayslake: Parade begins at 9:30 a.m. at Grayslake Central High School parking lot on Lake Street. Goes south on Lake Street to Junior Avenue, east on Junior to Memorial Park. A service immediately follows. (847) 223-8515.

Gurnee: Ceremony at noon, at Warren Township Veterans Memorial Park, outside police headquarters at O'Plaine Road and Washington Street. Featured speaker is Gurnee resident George Iler, a decorated Vietnam War veteran and retired Army lieutenant colonel. Music from the Viking Middle School band; Kristin Patten of One Hope United will speak about veteran and military support. Public invited to the Gurnee American Legion at Grand Avenue and Route 21 for a light luncheon.

Hampshire: Parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. at Hampshire Middle School, 560 S. State St., proceeding to Ralph Seyller East Park, for a service. In case of rain, moves to Hampshire Middle School gym. (847) 683-0904.

Hanover Park: Memorial Day service and groundbreaking for Veterans Memorial Plaza begins at 10 a.m. at the village hall, 2121 W. Lake St. Plaza to be built at the entrance of the Municipal Building, with one flagpole for the American flag and five other flag poles representing the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy. hpil.org.

Hoffman Estates & Schaumburg: 10 a.m. ceremony at the Veterans Memorial at the Hoffman Estates Police Department, 411 W. Higgins Road, followed by procession to St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, 202 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. 10:45 a.m. program includes music from the Spring Valley Concert Band and The Legends; remarks from Hoffman Estates Mayor William “Bill” McLeod and Schaumburg Village President Al Larson; a keynote address by Army Col. Jack Bishop, Retired. Essay, “A Tribute to Our Fallen Heroes,” read by Conant High School senior Athena Saldanha. Hot dogs, refreshments at the Picnic Grove after service. Bring lawn chairs.

Itasca: Parade steps off at 9:30 a.m. at Catalpa Street, goes east on Bryn Mawr to Walnut; south on Walnut and west on Orchard to disburse. Kane County: 3 p.m. Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission ceremony at the County Veterans Memorial at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva. Front grounds of Building A. Ceremony will honor Christopher Alexander Patterson of North Aurora and Alex Martinez of Elgin as they are enshrined on the Wall of Honor. Guest speaker is Ty Simmons, a Silver Star recipient and U.S. Army retired helicopter pilot who served in Vietnam and Iraq. Handicap parking and shuttle service available.

Lake Villa: Parade steps off at 1 p.m. from Polumbi Middle School, 131 McKinley Ave. A memorial service will follow at Lehmann Park on Main Street. The Ladies Auxiliary Hot Dog Luncheon will be held at the VFW Post on Grand Avenue after the ceremonies. (847) 356-6100.

Lake Zurich: Memorial Day parade steps off at 10 a.m. at Legion Post 964, 51 Lions Drive; proceeds to the Veterans Memorial at 2200 Mohawk Trail, for a brief service by Legion members and local dignitaries. (847) 438-2632.

Libertyville: Parade steps off 9:30 a.m. at the Libertyville Metra train station on Lake Street; goes south on Milwaukee Avenue to Cook Park, where a ceremony will start about 9:45 a.m. Music from the Libertyville High School band; presentations by high school essay winners; flag folding and flag collection ceremonies; gun salutes. Lindenhurst: 10 a.m. ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park, 2301 E. Sand Lake Road, with the Lakes Community High School band, Lindenhurst Scout Troop 1987 Color Guard, Millburn West Choir and Lindenhurst Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4894. Retired Army Lt. Col. Lisle: Parade steps off at 11 a.m. from Lisle Junior High School, 5207 Center Ave., and goes to village hall. Maple Park: American Legion Post 312 will conduct a service at all six of Maple Park's cemeteries, consisting of an Honor Guard, a Rifle Squad with a 21-gun salute and “Taps.” 9:15 a.m. at Pierce Cemetery, Pritchard and Owens roads; 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery on County Line Road; 9:45 a.m. at Gardner Methodist Cemetery, Route 38; 10 a.m. at Van Vlak Cemetery on McNulty Road; 10:15 a.m. at St Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery, Meredith Road; and 10:30 a.m. at South Burlington Cemetery on Ramm Road. A 11:15 a.m. ceremony at the Post home, 203 Main St., will feature guest speaker Grahame Wilkin, who designed the POW/MIA flag.

Naperville: Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at Jackson Avenue and West Street and proceeds to Central Park, Benton and Court streets. A ceremony follows at the Community Concert Center at Central Park. (630) 355-7664 or napervfw3873.org.

Old Mill Creek: The Historic Millburn Community Association hosts a Memorial Day service at 2 p.m. at the Millburn Cemetery, with guest speakers, patriotic music, trumpeters, and a color guard from the Gurnee American Legion. Cookies and lemonade after the service. Bring a lawn chair, and place flowers on veterans' graves. Millburn Cemetery is on Millburn Road across from Millburn Central School.

Palatine: 10 a.m. ceremony at Hillside Cemetery on Smith Street. Parade begins at 10:15 a.m. at Cornell and Smith, goes north on Smith, east on Robertson, south on Brockway and east on Wood to the Veterans Memorial in Community Park. Short program at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial and a final ceremony at 12:15 p.m. at the Legion Memorial in Towne Square, 150 W. Palatine Road. Roselle: American Legion Post 1084 holds a ceremony at 11 a.m. at Trinity Cemetery on Irving Park Road, west of Roselle Road. (630) 894-8524.

Round Lake Area and Hainesville: 10 a.m. parade, sponsored by all four Round Lake villages, Hainesville, the Round Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion, starts at the American Legion post, 111 E. Main St. in Round Lake Park. End point is Round Lake Beach's Veterans Park, Cedar Lake Road and Clarendon Drive, for an 11 a.m. ceremony and dedication of the 75th anniversary gazebo. St. Charles: Flag raising at 6 a.m. at Baker Community Center, 101 S. Second St., followed by ceremonies at each cemetery, starting at 6:30 a.m., consisting of an honor guard, firing squad and posting of colors. Ceremonies begin at South Cemetery (east side of Seventh Avenue, north of Madison); then at North Cemetery (west side of Route 25/Fifth Avenue, north of Johnor Avenue); and conclude at Union Cemetery (east side of Route 25/Fifth Avenue, north of Stonehedge Road). 10 a.m. parade starts at Sixth and Main streets, going east to Riverside Avenue. A ceremony at the Freedom Shrine will follow at 10:30 a.m. west of the St. Charles Police Department, 211 N. South Elgin: Hosted by South Elgin VFW Post 2327, ceremony at 10 a.m. at Panton Mill Park, 10 N. Water St. In case of rain, ceremony moves to Municipal Annex, 1 W. State St.

Sugar Grove: Parade steps off at 8:45 a.m. at American Legion Post 1271, 65 First St.; proceeds to the Mighell Road cemetery, just north of Baseline Road, for a 9 a.m. service. Following, participants proceed to Sugar Grove Cemetery on Merrill Road for a service. An all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet will be held from 9 a.m.-noon at the post. $9; $6 ages 3-12; free for veterans. (630) 466-9700.

Wauconda: 10 a.m. Memorial Day parade starts at the Wauconda Park District, 600 N. Main St., goes south along Main Street to Wauconda Memorial Park at Main Street and Route 176, for an American Legion ceremony. waucondaparade.com.

Waukegan: 10:30 a.m. parade steps off from Grand Avenue and Genesee Street; runs through downtown to Veterans Park, at Washington Street and Martin Luther King Drive. (847) 599-2525.

West Chicago: Costumed interpreters present “Memorial Day Remembered,” a ceremony reminiscent of the 1890s, at 1:30 p.m., Kline Creek Farm, 1N600 County Farm Road. (630) 876-5900. Winfield: Boy Scout Troop 575 holds a flag ceremony at 8 a.m. at Creekside Park on Winfield Road. Pancake breakfast follows from 8:30 to 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist School, 259 Church St., Winfield. $5. (630) 842-8478.
