Teacher shaving head after students meet fundraising challenge

Students at Hawthorn Middle South in Hawthorn District 73 have raised more than $1,000 for a school in Haiti, through the local Renew Hope charity founded by a Middle South family. To encourage the students, 6th grade teacher Anthony Dengler offered to shave his head if students raised $300. Students responded enthusiastically to both the charity and Mr. Dengler’s offer, raising more than $1,000 for the cause.

On Friday, Dengler will live up to his end of the deal and have his locks shorn during a celebration assembly. Students will also present their donation to fellow classmate Corey Caudle and the Caudle family’s Renew Hope foundation.
