Cary teen likely injured in bike fall, police say

Cary police say that a teenager who was airlifted to a hospital after he was found lying in a yard and bleeding from his head on Friday likely fell off his bike.

Cary Deputy Police Chief Ed Fetzer said Tuesday that he didn’t know if the boy had been released from the hospital. His mother told police Saturday that he was awake and alert, but did not remember what happened, Fetzer said.

Officers responded to a call at about 7 p.m. Friday near Bristol Way and Montana Drive, and were told by a woman who tried to help the boy that she saw him lying in a yard next to a bicycle, a news release stated. Two other boys had been seen in the area on bicycles at the time but had left the area when the woman tried to talk to them.

The boy’s speech was slurred and he appeared confused, and was unable to recall what happened. The Cary Fire Protection District provided medical attention, and then the boy was airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, the release said.

“We were able to identify fairly quickly and able to contact his mother almost right away,” Fetzer said.

The boy may have been trying to catch up to the other boys and somehow lost control of his bicycle, police said. The two other boys were interviewed but said they were not riding with him and did not see him fall.
