Gov. Quinn visits soldiers with Polish president

MARSEILLES — Gov. Pat Quinn and Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski are working to strengthen the alliance between the state of Illinois and Poland.

The two men visited Sunday with Illinois National Army National Guard soldiers and soon-to-be Polish officers at the Marseilles Training Center. Quinn and Illinois Army National Guard Major Gen. William Enyart were presented with special awards on behalf of the country of Poland.

Illinois ranks 5th among U.S. states in exports to Poland.

The visit by the Polish dignitary coincides with the NATO summit.

Officials say Quinn has also met with world leaders from the Netherlands, Belgium and Greece. They say he’s also met with Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to discuss strengthening economic partnerships domestically and abroad.
