Cops: Search finds 'fighting' roosters, drugs on Woodstock property

A SWAT team's search of a Woodstock-area rural residence Saturday uncovered 22 “fighting equipped” roosters, two dead hawks, multiple unlicensed guns, marijuana plants and nearly $90,000 in cash, according to police.

The 54-year-old old resident, Anthony Jayne, was in possession of 1,151 grams of cannabis, a shotgun, a small caliber rifle, ammunition, 43 suspected cannabis sativa plants, as well as drug paraphernalia scales and other packaging items, according to the McHenry County sheriff's office.

The street value of the seized cannabis was estimated at $5,000 according to McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.

Jayne was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, possession of cannabis, manufacture of cannabis sativa plants, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license, possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of animals in entertainment, according to authorities.

He was previously convicted of possession of between 30 and 500 grams of cannabis in August 2011, on charges that were filed on November 2010. He was sentenced to one year probation for that crime, according to court records.

The McHenry County Sheriff's office gained approval to conduct the search warrant on the home and property in the 11800 block of Lucas Road following an investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff's office narcotics unit.

McHenry County Animal Control was brought in to handle the roosters, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police was called in to address the dead hawks.

Jayne is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail and is due in court May 31.
