Pre-NATO protests target evictions, foreclosures

CHICAGO — A demonstration in Chicago protesting foreclosures and evictions has ended without any arrests.

Dozens of protesters marched through downtown streets Wednesday calling for a one-year moratorium on evictions. It’s one of many protests scheduled this week leading up to the NATO summit.

Twenty-three-year-old college student Gabriel Fisher says he’ll participate in protests the rest of the week and believes many of the causes are connected. They include opposition to war and advocacy of immigrant rights.

Protests earlier this week have resulted in arrests.

The biggest demonstration is expected Sunday, when thousands of people are expected for a march.

Delegations from about 60 countries, including 50 heads of state, are expected to attend the meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to discuss issues such as the war in Afghanistan.
