Former Illini Crandall Head signs at SMU, source says

Former Illinois reserve Crandall Head has signed to play with SMU.

An SMU official familiar with Head’s decision said he signed his paperwork Thursday. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because Head’s decision hasn’t been announced by the school.

The 6-4, 190-pound Head will have to sit out a year under NCAA rules. He has two more years of eligibility.

Head follows former Illinois assistant coach Jerrance Howard to SMU. New head coach Larry Brown hired Howard last month.

Head left the Illinois team in December after getting only limited playing time. He averaged 1 point over nine games last season before leaving.

The Matteson native is the younger brother of former Illinois standout Luther Head.
