Dawn Patrol: Autopsies on plane crash victims; Bulls face 76ers

Plane crash investigation continues

Autopsies will be performed today on the victims of a plane crash Thursday just east of Lake in the Hills Airport. The victims were identified as 82-year-old Paul Sanfilippo of Round Lake Park, to whom the plane was registered, and 65-year-old Hugh Scott Clark of Lake Forest. As of Thursday night, authorities did not know which man was piloting the aircraft. Full story.

What the Bulls have to do to win tonight

Getting back on defense is job No. 1 for the Bulls as they try to forget about a dismal performance in Game 2 and take on the Philadelphia 76ers tonight. As Mike McGraw points out, the Bulls let the 76ers shoot 59 percent from the field Tuesday. Full story.

84 pounds and counting

Michael White of West Dundee lost a whopping 84 pounds, or 26.3 percent of his body weight, over 12 weeks to win the Daily Herald’s 2012 Fittest Loser Challenge. And he says he’s going to keep going. “I just feel so great,” White said Thursday after he was crowned. Full story.

Victim’s wounds described

A medical examiner’s testimony Thursday drew tears from Joseph Ziegler’s friends and family during the murder trial of 23-year-old Matthew Zucco of Hanover Park. Prosecutors say Zucco killed Ziegler, 19, of Hoffman Estates during an attempted armed robbery. The trial continues today in Rolling Meadows. Full story.

Lombard lifts fee for al fresco dining

Restaurants in downtown Lombard no longer have to buy a permit to offer outdoor dining. The village board Thursday also removed the requirement that a meal must be provided with all alcoholic beverages served outside. “Lombard is leading by showing our willingness to move quickly and respond to business concerns and change laws that aren’t working,” Trustee Peter Breen said. Horse racing is back at Arlington Park

Gates open at 11:15 a.m. today, and the first race is at 3 p.m. Howard Sudberry, director of marketing and communications for Arlington Park, tells us what’s cooking at the track for the 2012 season. Full story.

Weather

Cloudy and 66 degrees this morning, but temperatures will increase to about 72 degrees, but the showers will continue. A thunderstorm or two may also spring up before the end of the day, and temperatures will dip to about 60 degrees tonight. Full story.

Traffic

It’s slippery when wet out there, so motorists should be prepared to slow down due to the rainfall overnight. Currently, highways and tollways are running smoothly with few incidents to slow things down. However, people should avoid reconstruction and widening construction of Walkup Road between Route 176 and Burning Bush Trial in Crystal Lake. Full story.

Sox hard to watch at home

Thursday’s loss to Cleveland capped another forgettable homestand for the Sox, who went 2-5 against Boston and the Indians. For the season they are 5-9 at the Cell, 7-4 on the road. Starter John Danks Danks was pounded by the Indians Thursday. Over 7 innings, the left-hander allowed 7 runs (6 earned) on 9 hits, including 2 home runs. He also made 2 errors.
