NATO video includes errors about Chicago, Obama

It seems NATO may also stand for Not All That Observant.

In a video released in anticipation of the upcoming summit in Chicago, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization got wrong the capital of Illinois, where President Barack Obama grew up and who founded the Chicago Tribune.

The narrator of the five-minute video says Chicago was the capital, which would come as news to Springfield, and that Obama grew up in Chicago. The president moved to Chicago as an adult after a childhood spent in Hawaii and Indonesia.

The video narrator explains that Col. Robert McCormick, for whom McCormick Place is named and where the summit is being held, founded the Chicago Tribune. As the Tribune, which first reported the mistakes, points out, McCormick didn’t found the paper.
