Talk with the Editor: Kasper, Rongey, Spiegel join our baseball lineup

We’re proud of our Major League Baseball coverage and the team of experts that provides that coverage.

Bruce Miles, our Cubs expert, and Scot Gregor, our expert on the White Sox, are enthusiastic and knowledgeable veterans who’ve reported on the teams for years.

Their expertise is complemented by our general sports columnists, Mike Imrem and Barry Rozner, who also have strong baseball credentials.

With the season starting anew, we want to add to that coverage, to provide a bit more conversation for fans of the local teams — especially in a year when the analysis of where the teams are headed may be more important than the recitation of where they’ve been.

We’re introducing the first of those additions this weekend — adding three broadcast personalities with unique insights to our baseball lineup.

Matt Spiegel, who partners with Rozner on WSCR the Score’s “Hit and Run” program on Sunday mornings and talks sports with Dan McNeil on the Score’s late morning show on weekdays, is writing a weekly column on baseball from Chicago’s vantage point. It will post online on Saturday afternoons and in print on Sunday mornings, and we think it will be like nothing you’ll read elsewhere.

Len Kasper, the television play-by-play broadcaster for the Chicago Cubs, will write a question-and-answer style column on the team each week. Got a question you’d like to see him tackle? Members of the Daily Herald’s Subscriber Total Access program can contribute questions for Len’s consideration at cubsquestions@dailyherald.com. It will post on Sunday afternoons online and in print on Monday mornings.

Chris Rongey, the White Sox postgame analyst on WSCR the Score, will write a similar question-and-answer column on the Sox each week. Members of the Daily Herald’s Subscriber Total Access program can contribute questions for Chris’ consideration at soxquestions@dailyherald.com. It too will post on Sunday afternoons online and in print on Monday mornings.

Len and Chris won’t be able to answer everyone’s questions, but they’ll select some of the best, and we think they’ll provide concrete insight that adds to the work Miles and Gregor do.

We’re excited about these additions and hope you are too. Meanwhile, I hope to be able to announce a few other new baseball features shortly.

Let me know what you think.

Chris Rongey, the White Sox postgame analyst on WSCR radio, will be offering his insights on the team in a weekly column in the Daily Herald.
Matt Spiegel, one of the premier weekday radio hosts on WSCR the Score and a partner with Barry Rozner on the station's "Hit and Run" program on Sunday mornings, will bring his love of the game to a weekly Daily Herald baseball column.
