Tyler Morawski’s walk off single to right center in the bottom of the eighth inning of Game 2 capped St. Edward’s 9-8 comeback win and a sweep of Rockford East Saturday in nonconference baseball action at Wing Park in Elgin.

Morawski (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Jacob Koehring (4-for-5, 3 RBI) had clutch RBI in the eighth after Rockford East grabbed the lead in the top half.

Game 1 was all St. Edward (13-9). The Wave cruised to a 6-1 victory behind pitcher Jake Lefrenz, who gave up just 1 earned run in 7 innings. Lefrenz struck out 6 and allowed 4 hits and 2 walks. Koehring was 1-for-3 with a triple, Tighe Koehring 1-for-2 with an RBI and Morawski and Ryan Nudd both drove in runs.

“It was a really great ending with the RBI single to win it. They’re a 3A school so it’s a big win,” St. Edward coach Tim Dovichi said.

Westminster wins two: The Warriors (10-6, 4-0) swept Christian Liberty in the Northeast Athletic Conference, winning Game 1 in 6 innings, 10-0. Ryan Perez allowed just 1 hit and struck out 11 while John Wawro (2-for-4, RBI) led Westminster at the plate. Game 2 was a little closer, as Westminster came from behind with 3 in the fifth and 2 in the sixth for the sweep, 6-3. Luke Weston was 1-for-2 (2 RBI) and Zack Edwards was 2-for-3 (RBI). Clay DeHaan gave up 1 earned run in 7 innings pitched.

South Elgin 11, Elgin 0: Andrew Weedman had a Saturday he’ll never forget. Weedman cranked out 2 home runs, one a grand slam, as he helped the Storm (8-2, 6-1) to a UEC crossover victory. Weedman was 3-for-3 with 6 RBI and Ryan Ford was 3-for-3 with a double and a triple. Eric Stazy (3-0) gave up just 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 Maroons in the win. Drew Bloomquist (0-2, 3 IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 2K, 2BB) suffered the loss for Elgin (4-10, 0-7), whose only extra-base hit came off the bat of Ryan Sitter.

Crystal Lake South 6, Johnsburg 1: Pitcher Jordan VanDyck improved to 6-0 on the season for the Gators (12-6) by going 6 innings, giving up an earned run and a walk on 4 hits and 9 strikeouts to shutdown the Skyhawks in FVC crossover action. Nick Severino went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a home run while Jake Byron (2-for-2, 2 RBI) cranked a bomb out for South as well.

Huntley 10, Woodstock North 2: Not many times are you going to hear that Huntley came away with a victory and a loss in the same game, but oddly enough, it happened. In Fox Valley crossover play. The Red Raiders (10-5) ganged up on Woodstock North’s pitcher Jamie Huntley, as Jordan Chuipek (1-3, 2 RBI), Nick Corpolongo (2-for-3, 3 runs) and Bryce Only (1-for-3, RBI) doubled to lead Huntley’s Red Raiders. Jake Perkins (1-0) pitched 5 solid innings, giving up just 1 earned run with a walk and 7 strikeouts.

Dundee-Crown 3, Woodstock 2: The Chargers (5-7-2) were able to stave off a sixth-inning rally by the Blue Streaks to hold on in FVC crossover play. D-C scored all its runs in the first, as Dylan Kissack went 1-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI. Garrett Ryan pitched 6 quality innings, giving up just 2 earned runs on 4 hits, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Cary-Grove 9, Grayslake North 6: Cary-Grove (10-6) stayed hot and pushed its winning streak to 6 with an FVC crossover win over the Rams behind clutch hitting and 2 hits apiece from Zach Marszal (2-for-4, RBI), Nick Beyer (2-for-2) and Matt DiCicco (2-for-2, 2 RBI). Jeremy Vasquez and Matt Nelson doubled for the Trojans. Andrew Brierton (1-4) pitched 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, 5 earned runs and 3 walks, He struck out 4 and DiCiccio got the save.

Burlington Central 3, Glenbard East 2: Michael Scott (2-for-4, RBI) blasted a walk-off single with the bases loaded with two outs in the seventh to give the Rockets the comeback victory. Central (11-5) tied the nonconference game in the sixth after Glenbard East had grabbed the lead in fifth. Ray Hunnicutt was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for BC.

Schaumburg 10, Streamwood 5: The Sabres managed to score 5 runs on 5 hits, but Schaumburg’s offense proved to be too robust as the Saxons came away with a nonconference win. In the loss, both Dalton Lundeen and Andrew Mitchell doubled and Jeff Weaver tripled for Streamwood.
