Seacrest to be part of NBC's Olympic coverage

NEW YORK — Ryan Seacrest is coming to NBC, but he won't be overthrowing Matt Lauer on NBC's “Today” show.

The entertainment titan sat down with Lauer on Wednesday's show to announce he'll be taking part in NBC's coverage of the Summer Olympics.

Seacrest says it will be the first of “a lot of fun things” he expects to be doing at NBC.

But he dashed rumors that he might soon be taking over for Lauer, whose contract is up soon.

Seacrest told Lauer he sees the longtime “Today” host staying put for a long time. Lauer didn't argue.

Seacrest's NBC duties add to a crowded schedule that includes hosting Fox's “American Idol” and heading a production company that furnishes programming to NBC's sister network E!, where Seacrest co-hosts “E! News.”
