Readers cheer on Fittest Loser contestants

Beth Small offers words of encouragement to one of the Fittest Losers.

She will receive a one-month membership to Curves.

“My heart goes out to Katie Przyszlak who is concerned about the time all this is taking, time she could be spending with her baby, and she’s wondering if it’s worth it.

“Speaking as a mother of two, I can say that the time you spend on yourself is important. You give so much to your family — especially your children, that it’s easy to lose sight of yourself and your own needs. The word ‘selfish’ gets a bad wrap. I’ve come to believe it’s important to be selfish sometimes. You can’t give what you don’t have. You can’t pass on the example of confidence and a true belief in yourself if you don’t possess those things.

“This experience will translate into an important message to your daughter. Make the most of this opportunity for yourself. You do deserve it — for yourself. You’ll gain a needed physical outlet for stress, confidence, self-awareness and myriad other positive attributes that will make you a better mother. Hang in there. Don’t compare yourself with the other contestants. I know it’s a competition, but just do the best that you can do for yourself and don’t worry about the others. You are worth it!”
