Man arrested driving 90 mph trying to make curfew

A Naperville man was arrested after police clocked him driving more than twice the posted speed limit as he said he was trying to make it home by his curfew early Sunday morning.

Jeremy J. Lai, 22, was a block from his parent’s home in the 700 block of Colorado Court when he was pulled over after an officer clocked him driving 93 mph, Naperville Sgt. Gregg Bell said.

The posted speed limit on that portion of Plainfield-Naperville Road is 45 mph.

Lai told officers he had a 2 a.m. curfew; he was stopped at 1:59 a.m.

Police searched Lai’s vehicle and found a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Bell said.

Lai was charged with speeding 40 mph or more over the statutory limit; possession of more than 2.5 grams but not more than 10 grams of marijuana; and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lai posted 10 percent of his $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 1.
