Teen arrested for downtown Indianapolis shootings

Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police say a 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the weekend shootings of five teenagers along the city’s downtown canal.

City police Sgt. Linda Jackson says detectives arrested the teenager Thursday on five counts of attempted murder and one count of criminal gang activity. She declined to release more details about the teen or his involvement in the shooting ahead of a news conference planned for Friday.

The shooting happened Saturday night on the west side of downtown Indianapolis.

A 14-year-old boy shot in the chest and a 16-year-old girl shot in the upper thigh were hospitalized earlier this week in serious but stable condition. An update on their conditions wasn’t immediately available Friday.

Two 17-year-old boys and a 14-year-old boy were treated for wounds and released.
