Ela Library hosts series of international events

Lake Zurich’s Ela Area Public Library will host a series of cultural programs this month that explore dance and culture from around the globe.

The events are family-friendly and free, unless otherwise noted.

A program called “The Barefoot Hawaiian” is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at the library, 275 Mohawk Trail. Dancers in traditional Hawaiian and Tahitian attire will perform to the pounding beat of log drums.

Attendees will hear about the history of this culture and trivia associated with various dances.

On March 28, you can learn about “Turkey: A Trip through Time” at 7 p.m.

Take an armchair tour of Cappadocia, Istanbul and the coast of the Aegean and Mediterranean seas. Registration is required.

Finally, on March 31, the library will host a “Taste of Chinese Culture” at 2 p.m. Discover legendary dynasties and dig into China’s profound history and culture during this slide lecture.

A tea ceremony and tasting are included.
