Bednar ahead in early voting for Lake County Recorder of Deeds

With 257 of 415 precincts reporting in the Republican primary for Lake County Recorder of Deeds, Mundelein resident Bob Bednar has 51 percent of the vote to opponent Marty Blumenthal’s 49 percent.

Longtime Democratic Recorder of Deeds Mary Ellen Vanderventer did not have a primary opponent in Tuesday’s election. She will face either Bednar or Highland Park’s Blumenthal in the November general election.

Functions of the office include recording of deeds and mortgages, as well as plats of subdivisions, liens, releases, ordinances, annexations and military discharge papers.

During the primary campaign, Blumenthal and Bednar said they want to explore whether the recorder of deeds office can be abolished and merged with another to save money.
