Diane Hewitt wins District 2 seat

Diane Hewitt of Waukegan has won the Democratic nomination for the Lake County Board District 2 seat, besting two opponents.

Hewitt, 57, the incumbent in District 2 which serves portions of Beach Park, Gurnee, Waukegan and Zion, easily won her seat by garnering 437 votes Tuesday night, unofficial vote totals show.

With 24 of 24 precincts reporting, Hewitt accounted for 44.91 percent of the votes registered, while challenger Mark Stricklin of Beach Park scored 325 votes for 33.40 percent. Beverly Stackhouse-Mull of Zion grabbed 211 votes for 21.69 percent.

No candidates ran in the Republican primary, but the party can put one on the November ballot.
