Rose won’t play vs. Heat due to groin injury

Derrick Rose will not play Wednesday against the Miami Heat, coach Tom Thibodeau confirmed before the game, because of a groin strain.

Asked if the injury happened in Monday’s win over New York, Thibodeau answered, “It’s probably a compilation of things over time. It’s tough for him to miss any game. He just has to do his rehab and get ready to go.”

Rose skipped Tuesday’s practice, but was walking around at the Berto Center and sat with Thibodeau for several minutes analyzing video. He did not take the court during Wednesday’s shootaround.

C.J. Watson, who missed the last five games with a sprained left ankle, will start at point guard. The Bulls also signed veteran Mike James for the third time this season to add depth at point guard. Luol Deng plans to play against the Heat after missing the previous two games to rest his sore left wrist.

The Heat (31-10) lost in overtime to Orlando on Tuesday night, dropping a game behind the Bulls in the loss column for the Eastern Conference lead. Tonight’s game tips off at 8:30 p.m.
