Round Lake Park man denies drug charges stemming from emergency call

A Round Lake Park man charged with possessing drugs found in his home by emergency officials responding to an overdose call pleaded not guilty Thursday in Lake County circuit court.

Matthew LaFlamme, 31, faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of possession of Ecstasy and heroin.

Assistant State’s Attorney George Pappas said LaFlamme’s father called emergency services on Jan. 4 when it appeared LaFlamme and a 30-year-old woman were suffering drug overdoses at his house in the 700 block of Treeview Lane.

Paramedics were able to revive the couple, but police who also responded found 196 Ecstasy pills in two separate bottles and a small amount of heroin.

Police said the drugs have an approximate street value of $12,500 and LaFlamme told them he owned all the contraband found in the house.

Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak scheduled a trial of the case for April 23. Potkonjak told LaFlamme, who is held on $100,000 bail, to appear in court March 14.
