Pankau takes aim at Ramey for exceeding contribution limits
Sen. Carole Pankau is criticizing her opponent in the Republican primary election for Illinois Senate, Rep. Randy Ramey, saying Ramey took donations from one political committee over the legal $50,000 limit.
Ramey said he was told about the overage by the State Board of Elections this week, and he plans to return $2,000 Monday to get back under the limit.
“It’s no big deal,” Ramey said.
Ramey received $52,000 from the Illinois Education Association’s political committee this election cycle.
A Board of Elections official said Friday that Ramey has 14 days to return the money to avoid a fine.
Pankau said her campaign had been keeping an eye on contributions to Ramey.
“We’ve kind of been tracking it throughout the campaign because he got some substantial donations this summer, also,” she said.
The two are vying for the Republican nomination in the 23rd Senate District, which includes parts of Carol Stream, Itasca, Bloomingdale, Villa Park, Addison and Bartlett.
