Naperville cops start over in hunt for 'possible' missing boy
Naperville police have called off their search but are still investigating reports of a young boy who was seen late Monday afternoon being led into a wooded area.
Sgt. Gregg Bell said officers were re-interviewing witnesses and checking with area schools Tuesday in the wake of a six-hour search of Country Lake Park, 736 Genesee Drive, that didn't turn up anything unusual.
“(There is) nothing to confirm we even have a missing boy at this point, other than what was learned yesterday,” Bell said. “(We are) re-interviewing witnesses today.”
Two witnesses called police at 4:50 p.m. Monday after seeing the boy with the man headed toward the woods.
Officers found an abandoned Mongoose bicycle in the area where the boy was last seen. Rescue crews and volunteers spent much of the evening searching the park but did not locate the boy.
The boy is described as 7 to 10 years old with blond hair who was wearing a gray sweatshirt with red sleeves. The adult was described as roughly 6 feet tall and 200 pounds and wearing a dark knee-length coat, dark pants, a black hat and gloves.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at (630) 420-6173.
