Man fleeing from police hit by car on I-290

A 33-year-old Chicago man was hospitalized in stable condition after being struck by a car while attempting to flee police by running across multiple lanes of Interstate 290, according to Illinois State Police.

Marvin Estes was hit about 5:47 p.m. Saturday on eastbound I-290 near Irving Park Road in Itasca shortly after a traffic stop in which officers attempted to detain him on three outstanding warrants.

State police said Estes fled from the officers, first running west across all lanes of traffic then back across the eastbound lanes before a car struck him.

Estes is being charged with resisting a peace officer and also is being held on the warrants, state police said. He was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where police said he was in stable condition.

Several lanes of I-290 were closed following the collision, but all have since reopened. The case remains under investigation, police said.
