Hurlbut for Kane County Circuit Court Clerk

There are plenty of challenges ahead for the next Kane County Circuit Court Clerk, not the least of which is having a major say in implementation of a new case management system, the lifeblood of the judiciary. With the budget struggles this office has experienced the last several years, the circuit court clerk needs to be ready to hit the ground running.

Republican candidates Thomas Hartwell, Karin Herwick and Catherine Hurlbut all agree the office needs financial efficiency and technology that works.

Hartwell is an attorney and former county board member. Herwick is a deputy in the circuit court clerk's office and is second in command.

Hurlbut, an attorney, has been a county board member since 1994. Segments of the circuit court clerk's office have not exactly operated like a well-oiled machine, and this needs to change. The new circuit court clerk can suffer no fools, must be decisive and work well — i.e., communicate — with the county board, which sets the office's budget.

Hurlbut brings to the table the qualities we think will make the office operate best: Making budgets work while having the office live within its means, the law, and knowledge of the office's history — including what not to repeat.
