Police ask for help to locate stolen money, pills

Authorities are asking the public for help in the investigation of a theft of $20,000 and prescription pills taken during a teen party earlier this month in an unincorporated McHenry County home.

The theft took place Feb. 11 in the 800 block of Florence Street while the homeowners were out of town and their daughters, ages 15 and 18, invited about 25 friends to their home without their parents’ permission, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release.

Investigators believe one of the guests took $20,000 from a toolbox in a closet, plus about 100 hydrocodone pills, McHenry County Sgt. Michael Cisner said. Investigators are still trying to determine whether the occupants of the home have medical prescriptions for the pills, police said.

“We are still investigating, everything is still pending,” Cisner said.

Anyone with information about the theft is encouraged to contact either Crime Stoppers of McHenry County at (800) 762-STOP (7867) or the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office at (815) 338-2144.

Callers can remain anonymous and might be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the offenders. Crime Stoppers does not use caller ID.
