Grayslake man’s car one of several hit in Kennedy crash caused by wrong-way driver

An early morning crash on the Kennedy Expressway caused by a driver going the wrong way involved a Grayslake man, Illinois State Police said Wednesday.
The wrong-way driver was identified as Vanessa M. Castillo, 25, of 3100 block of W. 41st Place, Chicago. Police said Castillo was driving a 2008 Chrysler Sebring south on I-90 in the northbound lanes at 4:16 a.m. At Division Street, she hit a black Nissan Maxima, a semitrailer, then clipped a black Mazda and a finally crashed head on with the same Maxima.
State Police identified the Mazda driver as Peter Walus, 36, of Grayslake. He was not injured in the crash, officials said later.
The Maxima was driven by Nancy Sandoval, 34, of Chicago and the semitrailer driver is Sarunas Tufaf, 44, of Chicago.
The state police news release says one driver was taken to Northwestern Hospital and remains in serious condition, while another driver was taken to Advocate Hospital. Castillo is hospitalized, according to officials, who did not say if the driver of the semi or the driver of the Maxima was the other person hospitalized.
Castillo has been charged with driving under the influence, driving the wrong way, and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license. She will remain in custody until she is released from the hospital and posts bond.
