Aurora police say hoped-for leads in the search for a missing mother and her three young children have fallen through.

Spokesman Dan Ferrelli said preliminary information indicating the mom and her sons may have been in Indiana proved to be false.

“In short,” Ferrelli said in a written statement, “we still have not determined the whereabouts of Ms. May.”

Laureth “Laurie” May, 29, left her home on the morning of Feb. 15 after an argument with her fiance, authorities said.

May, who lives on the 200 block of Plum Street, took her three sons with her — 4-year-old Quincy Collins, 2-year-old Oliver Collins and 1-year-old Spencer Collins.

Police believe May, a former teacher in LaGrange Highlands in Western Cook County, also may be traveling with a 17-year-old girl from Cicero who was reported missing shortly after May left Aurora.

Investigators had been tracking leads that May used a credit card in Gary and may have spoken to a woman at a Hobart, Ind., Wal-Mart. But Ferrelli said police still don’t have confirmation about the use of a credit card and, after reviewing video from the Wal-Mart, determined it was not May.

Police continue to ask anyone with information about her whereabouts to call (630) 256-5500.
