Burns not right for Kane board chairman

In the Feb. 4 issue of the Daily Herald, James Fuller offers “The gloves came off” on the front page. There could very well have been a few civil exchanges between Sen. Lauzen and Mayor Burns, however, Fuller did not mention those.

After a couple of jabs passed between the two candidates for Kane County Board Chairman, Mayor Burns offers “Chris obviously hates homosexuals, is afraid of women and believes that only he has the answers to everything.” “That’s sad.”

“Are you joking?” Lauzen responded. Kevin replies, ”You are dumber than you look.” And on it went, with a few more unkind words from Burns.

Sir, there is real and important county business at hand here. You will never serve our county well with your irrational behavior and name calling.

Mayor Burns, for almost 20 years I have heard Sen. Lauzen offer the same message. Sen. Lauzen is strong on faith and family values plus fair and honest government for all constituents. I never heard him say that he hates homosexuals.

I see strong family values as just that. I have strong family values and that is not an indication that I hate homosexuals. They know who they are and if they associate with me and my friends — my friends are mostly car guys; hope that is OK with you — they keep that preference to themselves.

Mayor Burns, you offered, ”My opponent is running to divide the county, to surround himself with only people who think like him.” Sir, I would suggest that your irrational behavior is dividing the county.

Sen. Lauzen has worked at controlling state spending for two decades and found that Springfield does not understand that, plain and simple, we are broke. Sen. Lauzen has been representing the wishes of constituents in Springfield and he will continue to do just that as our new Kane County Board Chairman.
