Whitney Houston’s personal struggles were well-documented, yet the news of her death at 48 shocked me Saturday evening.
I was in junior high school when she burst upon the music scene. Her self-titled debut album was in a regular rotation on my Walkman.

As I write this, I’m listening to one of her later hits, “It’s Not Right, But it’s Okay,” which I just bought on iTunes.
