By Associated Press

A doctors group says the market for cosmetic surgery procedures is growing.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says nearly 14 million procedures were done in the United States in 2011. That’s an increase of 5 percent compared to the previous year.

The procedures include facelifts and liposuction. And a procedure popular with men called chin augmentation nearly doubled in 2011, with 21,000 procedures performed.

But most were minimally invasive procedures such as chemical peels and Botox injections. Nearly 6 million Botox-type injections were done in 2011 in the United States.

Group president Dr. Malcolm Roth says the increase reflects rising consumer confidence and the demands of an aging baby boomer population.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons is based in Arlington Heights.
