Detroit holds off Illinois-Chicago 70-66

DETROIT — Ray McCallum scored 26 points and Detroit withstood an Illinois-Chicago rally to win 70-66 Friday night.

Eli Holman had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Titans (12-11, 6-5 Horizon), who have won five of their last six.

McCallum made 9 of 11 shots from the field, including the only one Detroit made in 17 tries from behind the arc. The Flames stayed in the game by making 10 of 27 3-point attempts.

Gary Talton led Illinois-Chicago (6-15, 2-9) with 17 points.

Darrin Williams had 13 points and 10 rebounds for UIC, which trailed 43-26 early in the second half before storming back. Talton’s two free throws with 38 seconds left got the Flames within 68-66, but Jason Calliste and LaMarcus Lowe each made a free throw to close it out.

The Flames have lost 24 straight on the road in the Horizon League since 2009.
