Riverwoods fire starts in garage

A newly constructed home in Riverwoods sustained heavy smoke damage in fire early Friday morning, authorities said.

The fire began about 4:45 a.m. in a four-car attached garage and spread to the first-floor living area of the home on the 0-100 block of Wildflower Lane, according to the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District.

The home was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.

Authorities said the garage, which contained “significant” construction debris, was fully involved with fire when emergency crews arrived. It was brought under control in 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation on Friday. Officials did not have a damage estimate.

Crews from five area fire departments responded to the blaze.
