Cops: Glen Ellyn sergeant thwarts robbery

By Christopher Placek

A Glen Ellyn police sergeant helped thwart an attempted robbery Tuesday night on Roosevelt Road, authorities said Wednesday.

The officer saw a man and woman trying to rob a 49-year-old man about 9:30 p.m. along a sidewalk on 300 block of Roosevelt Road, police said.

He confronted the suspects, who fled to a nearby vehicle. They were unable to get the car out of the parking lot, police said, and were taken into custody without incident.

The suspects were identified as Thomas D. Simmons, 20, of Glen Ellyn, and Diamond S. Odom, 19, of Wheaton. Both were charged with attempted aggravated robbery and attempted robbery.

Police said Simmons was in possession of a pellet gun.

Both suspects were taken to DuPage County jail.
