Derrick Rose again held out with toe injury

Derrick Rose sat out the Bulls’ game against the Charlotte Bobcats on Saturday night, the fourth straight game the NBA’s reigning MVP has missed because of a sprained left big toe.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau says Rose “keeps getting better” and the team is “encouraged by that.”

Rose had company in the trainer’s room with forward Taj Gibson (left ankle sprain) and guard John Lucas III (left groin strain) also being held out against the Bobcats. Gibson, injured at Cleveland on Friday, was in a walking boot before the game and said he’s treating the sprain with ice. All three players are day-to-day.

“Only Derrick knows how he feels,” Thibodeau said. “When he says he can go, he’ll go.”

Rose is averaging 20.8 points and 8.7 assists this season.
