Elburn man, 42, dies in Kaneville crash

By Paul Biasco

A 42-year-old Elburn man was killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash in unincorporated Kaneville Township Monday night, according to police.

Amien Swift was driving a 2001 Toyota SUV east on Lasher Road, a rural two-lane roadway, about a quarter-mile west of Harter Road when the vehicle left the road and rolled several times, police said.

The SUV came to rest on its roof; at some point during the crash, it caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames, Kane County sheriff's Lt. Patrick Gengler said.

Swift, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle when it crashed around 8:20 p.m., was unable to get out of the SUV and died at the scene, according to police.

Investigators continued to investigate the crash late Monday, but were not able to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, authorities said.

“Speed is going to be a factor,” Gengler said. “He was traveling at a high rate of speed.”

Police said the vehicle was unable to navigate a curve in the road, causing it to leave the roadway.
